Windows 11 on Windows 365
Led the product effort to bring Windows 11 to Windows 365 Cloud PCs — removing the hardware barrier to Windows 11 adoption by delivering it through the cloud, available to both Enterprise and Business customers.
Windows 11 launched with strict hardware requirements — TPM 2.0, specific CPU generations, Secure Boot — that blocked millions of existing enterprise devices from upgrading. Windows 365 changed that calculus entirely.
The problem
Enterprise IT teams faced a hard choice with Windows 11: invest in hardware refreshes across their fleet, or stay on Windows 10 past its extended support window. For organizations with thousands of devices, neither option was clean. Windows 365 offered a third path.
What we built
Windows 11 support across all Windows 365 Cloud PC configurations — Enterprise and Business — with a virtual TPM (vTPM) chip built directly into the Windows 365 platform. This meant:
- No new hardware required — the host device’s hardware limitations became irrelevant; Windows 11 requirements were fulfilled by the Cloud PC infrastructure
- Available across all SKUs — supported on all Windows 365 configurations with at least 2 vCPUs and 4GB RAM, covering the full range from the entry-level $28/month Business tier upward
- Upgrade path for existing deployments — administrators could upgrade existing Windows 10 Cloud PCs by changing the gallery image in Microsoft Endpoint Manager and triggering a reprovision
- Compatibility tooling — the Work from anywhere dashboard in Endpoint Analytics surfaced readiness data for existing deployments
Impact
Covered by TechRadar, Windows Central, and other major tech publications at launch. For enterprises blocked by hardware constraints, Windows 365 became a practical on-ramp to Windows 11 without a capital refresh cycle.
What I learned
The most interesting product challenge wasn’t the technical enablement — it was communicating the value proposition clearly in a market confused by Windows 11’s hardware requirements. The message “you don’t need new hardware” was more powerful than any feature list. Clarity of value proposition matters more than completeness of feature description.
